About CUCD
The Council of University Classical Departments is the professional forum for all teachers of classical Greek and Roman subjects in British Universities. It has four meetings annually: three meetings of the Standing Committee, and a plenary Council meeting in November, at which all UK Classics Departments (and remnants thereof) are represented (see the constitution and “Contacts, Representatives, and Member Institutions” below). As well as serving as a voice for classical teachers in higher education on matters of academic and professional significance, CUCD collects annual statistics on students numbers in UK classical degree programmes, and publishes the CUCD Bulletin, which is available on-line from volume 24 (1995).
CUCD maintains JISCmail lists for the following groups in UK Higher Education to enable more frequent discussions and sharing of support and ideas between colleagues who hold key administrative roles in Classical and related departments/subject groups:
- Heads of Department/Subject leads;
- Directors of Research/Impact/REF/Knowledge exchange;
- Directors of Teaching/Student Experience/Education/Undergraduate studies;
- Admissions/recruitment/outreach.
- A list already exists for EDI officers (I will copy details already sent to the list below).
There is also a super-list, called simply CUCD, which will include all subscribers for the other lists, and will be used for information and announcements relevant to UKHE Classics in general.
The instructions for joining the various lists are below. They will be circulated each academic year for new role holders to join or remove themselves. All except EDI are currently set up as public discussion lists, but groups could decide to change status to a private discussion list if needed. Moderators will make sure there is no spam, and discussion is constructive and on topic. It may be useful to arrange occasional in person meet ups, either separately or at existing conferences.
